Vomit Glitter

Line of colorful papers drying on a clothesline indoors.

You know it's been a great night when there are clothes in the bathtub covered in vomit. No, I'm not talking about a debaucherous alcohol-fueled night; I'm referring to a night of a child vomiting!

My husband has been away, and the one night I relented and let my two youngest children sleep with me was the night I was awoken at midnight by the glorious eruption of beans, rice, and mince from last night's dinner. I KID YOU NOT! The only thing missing was corn! It rained down on the three of us and was even in my poor boy's eyes! How I wasn't emptying my tum is anyone's guess. Anyhoo, I will spare you any further details of the evening's events; basically, it didn't get much better.

What I was thrilled about was the discussion we had this morning. My boy asked, "Mum is it bad when we vomit?". I ask you, the reader, is it bad? What do you honestly think? For me, it isn't the best thing that's ever happened; I certainly wasn't jumping around shouting, "Yay, vomit glitter!". And, of course, I'm still dealing with the fallout (spewout?) the following day.

Was it an enjoyable experience for him? No way, he was crampy and clammy and felt terrible but does that make it bad? And sure, now he isn't feeling 100%, but he's lacking sleep, and his body has moved into "rest, digest and heal'. He needs hydration and sleep.

My answer for him was pretty simple - "No, when you vomit, your body is so amazing; your brain sends signals via the nervous system that there is something inside that shouldn't be there, and your body must get rid of it". We are teaching our children to trust in their body's ability to do what it needs to do to get well; pain and illness are not to be feared; it is the way the body communicates. Yes, as parents, we 100% take action to support the children and ourselves when they are sick, but we don't panic when they have a bug or a temp because it is a signal from their body that something isn't quite right and at times there is no need to treat the symptoms that are the result of the body's wisdom. We also work on the premise that it is better to treat the cause, not the symptom, and also to keep ourselves in health - prevention is better than cure.

This brings me to the technique of Spinal Flow; it is all about supporting the body, moving the wisdom of the body to move into total health and wellness. And continuing to give the body what it needs to maintain a balance. Just like a car that needs regular oil changes and air pressure checks, and Because unless you live in a remote community that is entirely isolated from stress (chemical, physical and emotional), then you will need continued maintenance.

I'm off to finish washing pillows, doonas, PJs, mattress protectors, throws, scatter cushions, forty-five pillows (now I know why my husband whines about all the pillows!), more PJs and the covers of all of those things. (Nothing beats a few chunks in the machine!) Ha! Ha! - sorry, not sorry.
